Trucking Accidents

Trucking Accidents: Generally speaking, truck accidents are even more difficult to sort out than car accidents. Trucks are bigger; picture a 40-ton 18-wheeler or a dump truck. Because they are big and heavy, even a slow moving truck can cause a lot of damage. At highway speeds, truck accidents can lead to very serious injuries and death.

On the safety side, truck drivers are professionals who are, presumably, better trained than the average person behind the wheel of a car. And trucks are owned by companies that train their drivers and keep their vehicles in top shape. Trucks must also meet regulations and laws passed by all the states they travel in.

Yet, when inspectors look over the aftermath of a truck wreck, it's not unusual for them to find problems with brakes or with drivers who haven't had enough rest or who are not as well trained as they should be.

Because it can be hard for a trucking company to find good drivers, they sometimes settle. And they may create schedules that drivers can't meet without ignoring rules that set limits on time spent behind the wheel.
